Cricket is more than just a game in India—it’s an emotion. But sometimes, even cricket pauses to pay respect to something far more important—human lives. In a touching gesture, players from Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Mumbai Indians (MI) will wear black armbands during Match 41 of IPL 2025 to pay homage to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack.
The match, being played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on April 23, 2025, will begin with a minute of silence. It is the cricketing world’s way of standing in solidarity with the 26 innocent lives lost, including two foreign nationals, in the heartbreaking incident.

No Cheerleaders, Only Silence and Solidarity
To mark this solemn occasion, the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) has also decided that there will be no cheerleaders during the match. This decision was taken as part of austerity measures to honor the gravity of the situation.
The atmosphere in the stadium will reflect a deep sense of loss and respect, reminding everyone that the game we love also has the heart to feel the nation’s pain.

Indian Cricket Fraternity Shows Support
From Virat Kohli to Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul, and Shubman Gill, several top Indian cricketers have taken to social media to condemn the attack and extend support to the grieving families.
This isn’t the first time Indian cricket has shown such unity. After the Pulwama attack in 2019, the IPL skipped its opening ceremony and donated the funds to victims’ families. The same year, players wore camouflage caps during an ODI against Australia, a symbolic salute to our brave soldiers.
Even legendary cricketer MS Dhoni wore gloves with the Army insignia during the 2019 World Cup, although the ICC later intervened.
A Gentle Reminder That Humanity Comes First
In the fast-paced world of cricket, moments like these serve as reminders that life is bigger than sports. The black armbands, the silent stadium, the absence of celebrations—it all tells a powerful story of compassion and unity.
As the SRH vs MI match unfolds tonight, the focus won’t just be on runs, wickets, or boundaries. It will be on hearts united in grief and tribute.
Let us all take a moment to remember the innocent lives lost, and salute the resilience of a nation that stands together—even in its darkest hours.
